Jul 26, 2007 · They used CA hinges, (I have never seen CA hinges used in any other sailplane I own) and the LE of the control surfaces and the TE of the wing are Square balsa, no bevel, not top and bottom hinged, both are Square and the hinge gap is a full 2mm (a skosh bigger than 1/16") to allow for abundant throw but the gap is not even sealed...

Oct 12, 2010 · The designations refer to type of competition the glider is primarily designed for. They are FAI designations. From what i know: F3B is a multi-task sailplane (duration, distance, speed) contest. F3J is a thermal duration contest. F3F is a slope time-trial race.
Top Model Grafas MAXi 3.5E discussion and build thread
Jun 25, 2023 · Here are a bunch of photos of the sailplane. To my surprise Top Model is still using that half baked elevator support from the Prelude design. It uses two wooden discs to support a carbon rod. I was kinda stunned. This has proven to be a total failure in the Prelude. So I'm going to have to repair this before I build the elevator. Shame on them.

Jul 11, 2008 · As a full scale sailplane pilot, I have never flown a sailplane that has been equipped with flaps. They have all had spoilers. Upon getting near to the gliderport, I place my left hand on the spoiler handle and keep it there until the sailplane stops on the runway. Full scale spoilers, and I imagine on models as well, serve as a "reverse throttle".
