I ended up trying a guide that said to disassemble, remove the rubber caps from the joysticks, and clean the joysticks with an electronic cleaner or isopropyl alcohol (I used alcohol). I attempted this and it ended up making the issue significantly worse.

Even with the adapter it has the least latency of any controller (there are agreements to say the pro wireless is the same but I find this to be untrue in my own personal experience). I also make sure to just turn off controller for desktop. After I did this the controller lights up every time I tab into the game and it should work just fine.
