Moiraine Damodred (pronounced: mwah-RAIN DAHM-oh-drehd; /mwaˈɹɛːɪn ˈdɑː.moʊˌdɹɛd/) was born in the year 956 NE in Cairhien, the youngest daughter of Dalresin Damodred, a scholar, and his second wife whose name is unknown. She also goes by the name "Alys."

House Damodred is a major noble house of Cairhien, in fact one of the few royal houses able for a while to rule this kingdom. Elayne Trakand is a descendant of this house through her father, Taringail Damodred. The sigil for this house is the Tree and Crown and its colors are red, green and white.
