CARMAX can locate a car for you and have it shipped to your branch, however, and if you don't like it, you can walk away from the deal. So, to summarize, CARMAX for ease of purchase and refund policy and probably better "disclosure" of the car's history. DEALER for possibly better price, better selection and better warranty options.

CarMax experience yesterday. Customer comes in with 2005 Sienna. An overall decent car with about 30,000 miles, but it needed tires, had the normal kiddy interior, bit of a crease on the driver's door and would probably need brakes too. Carmax put an insane 19,000 dollars for it which was 3,000 dollars more then we could touch.

Based on the calculations, it appears the dealer is not offering any discounts for Loyalty or Captive Lease, as their last quote for a 36-month lease was $599. I have a trade-in value of $1,670, but CarMax is offering $5,000. Since this is a leased MDX, I would need to purchase it first, pay taxes, and then sell it to CarMax.
