Updating maps of Southern California show where wildfires, including the Palisades, Eaton and Hughes fires, are burning across Los Angeles.

Three major fires were burning on a day of high fire danger Wednesday in Los Angeles County. The fires include the deadly Eaton and Palisades fire and the Hughes Fire, which started Wednesday morning in the Castaic area.

Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 23,448 acres after being active for 16 days. A crew of 3,274 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 72% of the fire by Thursday morning. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

The Hughes Fire has now burned 8,096 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties since igniting late Wednesday morning near Castaic Lake, according to Cal Fire. More than 24,00 people have been ordered to evacuate due to the Hughes Fire. Another 30,000 people are in evacuation warning zones.

The Hughes fire about 50 miles north of Los Angeles further taxed firefighters in the region who have managed to bring two major fires in the metropolitan area largely under control.

As soon as the fires erupted, Donald Trump began sticking the boot in, lashing out at California Governor Gavin Newsom, and resurrecting an earlier hobbyhorse about water supplies.
