The 2024 RC Cola and Moon Pie Festival is almost here, and I couldn't be more excited. I'm a massive fan of small town festivals, the Moon Pie festival is one of my favorites.

I missed mention of the annual RC Cola and Moon Pie Festival in Bell Buckle,Tennessee (I didn’t know there was a Bell Buckle). And I overlooked the Moon Pie Eating Contest in Bessemer, Alabama.

The third Saturday in June is a special time in Bedford County, as the country’s biggest celebration of an iconic Southern duo: RC Cola and MoonPies.

Eating Moon Pies and drinking RC Cola together has been a Southern tradition for many years, and she is working to get RC Cola on board for the new festival, but her sole focus is on Moon Pies.

There’s no connection between Ball and Moon Pies, other than Mayor Gail Wilking. She throws the treat at parades and hands one to students who visit Town Hall.

Moon pies not only flooded grocery store shelves, but they gained mainstream popularity thanks to country singer Big Bill Lister's 1951 song "Gimme an RC Cola and a Moon Pie".

The crash happened during the RC Cola-Moon Pie Festival race outside the Bell Buckle Volunteer Fire Department. Witnesses within inches of the crash watched as the motorcyclist sped away.
