More than 9,000 city employees are on strike after contract talks fell apart between AFSCME District Council 33 and Mayor Parker’s administration, the first major city worker strike since 1986.

Philadelphia's largest city workers' union is going on strike for the first time in nearly 40 years on Tuesday after a deal couldn't be reached with the city. AFSCME District Council 33, which represents thousands of city workers, is walking off the job after negotiations didn't end in a deal. The union last went on a strike in 1986.

Residential trash and recycling pickup would stop immediately if there is a strike on Tuesday, and residents are asked not put their trash outside for collection.
