The FTC just rested its case following weeks of testimony in a landmark antitrust case against Meta. But before Meta can begin its defense, the company's lawyers have opted for another move: asking the judge to throw out the case entirely.

Facebook’s parent company, Meta, asked a federal judge to toss the Federal Trade Commission’s antitrust case against it. Meta claimed that the FTC failed to prove during the trial that the company violated antitrust laws and that acquiring both Instagram and WhatsApp was anticompetitive.

Meta’s lead attorney called a once-prominent tech journalist a “failed blogger.” Long-simmering tension between Silicon Valley and the press that covers it is surfacing during the Federal Trade Commission’s antitrust trial against Meta.
