In an intense 72-move battle, D. Gukesh bounced back with a crucial win over German GM Vincent Keymer in the Masters section of the Tata Steel Chess 2025 in Wijk aan Zee on Wednesday.

In a historic moment for Indian chess, 18-year-old D Gukesh has become the new India No. 1, overtaking Arjun Erigaisi in the live FIDE ratings after a stellar performance at the Tata Steel Chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee.

Gukesh and Caruana are both on two points after the result and it remains to be seen who among the rest could overtake them.

The Tata Steel Chess, which will be Gukesh Dommaraju’s first event since being crowned world champion in Singapore, gets underway in the Dutch town of Wijk aan Zee on Friday.

D Gukesh secured a crucial victory against Vincent Keymer in a 72-move match at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2025, marking his second win. R Praggnanandhaa held Max Warmerdam to a draw, maintaining his strong performance.

Interestingly, all of R Praggnanandhaa's victories have come at the expense of the Indians so far in the tournament.

While Gukesh collected his third draw on the trot, R Praggnanandhaa continued to shine against his compatriots at the Tata Steel Chess in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands as he moved into the sole lead by completing a hat-trick of victories on Tuesday.

R Praggnanandhaa won against Arjun Erigaisi in the third round of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2025. The game concluded with Praggnanandhaa leading the table with a score of 2.5/3. Other notable matches include a draw between D Gukesh and Fabiano Caruana and Leon Luke Mendonca earning his first point.

Dommaraju Gukesh earned his second win of the 2025 Tata Steel Chess Masters in Round 5, closing the gap on joint leaders R Praggnanandhaa and Nodirbek Abdusattorov with a win over Vincent Keymer, who was his second when winning the chess world championship last month.

Indian Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa secured his third straight win at the 2025 Tata Steel Chess on Tuesday, defeating GM Leon Mendonca of India.� With 3.5 points after four rounds, Praggnanandhaa is the outright leader of the points table.
