Hundreds of protesters who spent the Fourth of July in downtown Los Angeles to rally against the immigration raids that have roiled the region and the surge in federal funding approved this week to keep them going.

The threat of continued ICE raids has continued, prompting officials to express concern over the welfare of revelers congregating in large celebratory gatherings.

Los Angeles has made headlines for several recent immigration protests. On June 6, protesters resisted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE) agents' raids, spurring President Donald Trump to deploy National Guard troops and Marines to respond, against the wishes of Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom.
