The European Union still aims to reach a trade deal with the United States by July 9 after Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and U.S. President Donald Trump had a "good exchange", a Commission spokesperson said on Monday.

The United States has offered an agreement to the European Union that would keep a 10 percent baseline tariff on all EU goods, with some exceptions for sensitive sectors such as aircraft and spirits, an EU diplomat and a national official told POLITICO.

Portuguese Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento said he sees the European Union and the US reaching an agreement with tariffs potentially below 10% that would help keep trade flowing.
