Neighbor ‘had no other choice’ when he shot bear attacking man, Pennsylvania cops say
“The neighbor had no other choice but to shoot and kill the bear,” Schatz told TNonline. Nierer wasn’t seriously injured in the attack, and told WBRE he’s actually sorry for the bear, which witnesses say had been trying to get into a market in town before leaving and encountering Nierer.
Bear Shot After Attacking Man on Residential Street
A man was attacked by a hungry bear on his way home from the grocery store on Sunday, only to be saved by his quick-thinking neighbor. The man, named Andrew Nierer, was attacked by the small black bear on a street in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, after walking back from the store along a trail through the woods.

Andrew Nierer, of Jim Thorpe, was coming home from a nearby grocery store when the small bear attacked him. Security camera footage from a nearby home shows the bear tackling Nierer and assaulting him before a neighbor comes up and shoots and kills the animal.
