As much of the nation watched Trump take office for the second time in history, a border agent in Vermont was reportedly shot dead by a migrant.

A Border Patrol agent stationed in Vermont was killed after being shot during an encounter with an individual near the Canadian border, according to a news report. The federal law enforcement agent was killed while conducting a traffic stop near Interstate 91 near the northern border Monday,

The lawsuit argues that the 14th Amendment applies to all children born in the country and cannot be dismissed by the stroke of a president’s pen.

Those in favor of Trump said they believe he's going to reunite the country and make it safer, more affordable, and a better place to live, while others protested his inauguration.

This executive order is plainly unconstitutional,” Vermont Attorney General Clark said in a statement Tuesday announcing the lawsuit.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was fatally shot Monday afternoon in Vermont, state police said. Federal authorities are investigating.

Activists in Burlington and in more than 70 other cities nationwide protested President Trump's inauguration over policies on marginalized communities.

Until the order, which Trump signed the same day he was inaugurated as the 47th president, the U.S. government has, at least the late 1800s, considered the child of any immigrant born on U.S. soil an automatic citizen, even to a mother in the United States illegally.

The courts will ultimately have their say on the new administration's "energy emergency" and planned environmental rollbacks.
