District 9 State Representative Trent Ashby introduced a bill during the State’s 89th legislature that is named for Audrii Cunningham, who was murdered in February 2024 by a sex offender. Audrii was only 11 when Don Steven McDougal killed her. McDougal pleaded guilty to the murder last week. House Bill 2000, otherwise known as Audrii’s Law, would require people convicted of crimes like enticing a child to register as sex offenders. In 2024, the Family Crisis Center of East Texas served 1,224 clients. 17 of those were human trafficking cases. That number appears to be increasing every year, according to the agency. Starting on Thursday through the end of the month, the agency is taking bath and bedding donations to give to survivors in their shelter. Items can be dropped off at their office locations Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. According to the sheriff’s office, Dustyn Thomas Loyd, 24, was arrested at a residence on FM 2339 in Murchison. A search warrant was issued by Henderson County 392nd Judicial District Judge Scott McKee following an investigation by the Henderson County Crimes Against Children Task Force along with other Henderson County Sheriff’s Office investigators. When the City of Diboll gets a heavy rain event, storm water can find its way through damaged manholes in the city, mix with sewage, and cause lines to overflow. It’s a problem Diboll City Manager Jason Arnold says they’re trying to get ahead of with the sanitary sewer overflow plan.
