NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A major winter storm that slammed Texas and blanketed the northern Gulf Coast with record-breaking snow moved east Wednesday, spreading heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain across parts of the Florida Panhandle, Georgia and eastern Carolinas.

But this snowstorm wasn’t just a New Orleans phenomenon. Across the Gulf Coast, cities saw unprecedented snow totals. In Florida, Milton (north of Pensacola) recorded 8.8 inches, the most snow the state has ever seen, smashing the previous record of 4.4 inches back in 1954.

Despite all the injuries that they have suffered this season, the Orlando Magic are holding strong in the Eastern Conference standings. Orlando somehow sits just outside the top six of the East despite missing multiple crucial players.

A historic and deadly winter storm that stretches over 1,500 miles blanketed the southern U.S. on Tuesday with historic snow totals, including the first-ever Blizzard Warning for the Gulf Coast.

The winter storm moving through the southern regions of Texas, Louisiana and Alabama has brought snow to the Sunshine State. Snow began to fall near Pensacola Tuesday afternoon.
