Parts of the Florida Panhandle were coated in a blanket of snow with temperatures at 25 degrees on Tuesday while Miami had temperatures in the 80s, seemingly two different worlds. From Pensacola down to Miami, there was a difference of 55 degrees, according to the National Weather Service Miami .

The heaviest snowfall in the Sunshine State occurred around Pensacola, where spotters reported measuring amounts of 5-12 inches through Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service said on Jan. 3, 2018, parts of north Florida, along with south Georgia, saw snow accumulate thanks to the first winter storm the Sunshine State had seen since 1989. Georgia of course saw the largest accumulations, up to 2 inches, but the snowfall in Florida was still measurable.

The wind continues to be a factor as we head overnight; cold temperatures are expected in the 30s. The morning of Thursday will be in the 30s, and it will be another cloudy start to the day. READ: Snow in Florida!

The last time Central Florida saw freezing temperatures was Christmas Day 2022, sinking to nearly 30 in some areas and causing sleet in Brevard County. Thursday’s high temperature in Orlando is expected to reach 53 with a low of 38.

Snow totals are still being reported across Florida, but as of Wednesday morning, it appears Pensacola has broken the snow record for the state.

Multiple parts of Florida are seeing snow as a winter storm makes its way across the Gulf Coast. On Monday, Jan. 20, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency ahead of dangerously cold wind chills and prolonged freezing and sub-freezing temperatures.

Florida is in the rare position of being able to say they have more snow than Massachusetts. In the recent s nowfall on Sunday into Monday, Boston received 5 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Ashburnham and Holden, both in Central Massachusetts, had reports of 7 inches and 7.5 inches of snow.

The highest amount of snowfall is expected on Florida's western side, with some areas getting up to 8 inches of snow, leaving authorities to close the I-10 for cleaning

All throughout the panhandle, videos captured the unusual sight, with some areas seeing multiple inches of snow.

While the snow may be over, the cold isn't, and that brings another hazard to Florida motorists not used to driving in snow and ice.
