Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the previous trade session lower. Nifty 50 closed at 24,004.75, while Sensex ended at 79,223.11. Asian equities were fluctuating in early trade today.

At home, there were concerns over weak rupee and foreign outflows. Data showed India’s trade deficit ballooned to a record high of $37.8 billion in November from $27.1 billion in October, worse than consensus expectations of $23 billion.

The equity benchmark indices continued their upward trend for the second day in a row, with the Sensex rising by 1,436 points to close at 79,944, and the Nifty climbing 446 points to 24,189.

The BSE Sensex fell 687.34 points to hit a low of 77,560.79. Nifty tested the sub-23,500 level and was later trading at 23,460.45, down 116.55 points or 0.49 per cent.
