Ryanair, Europe’s biggest airline, is going after unruly passengers on its flights and has filed for €15,000 ($15,400) in damages from a passenger who disrupted a flight last year.

Ryanair’s decision to seek €15,000 in damages from an allegedly unruly passenger is actually “quite a low amount”, an aviation expert has claimed. Yesterday, the budget airline claimed an individual had behaved badly on a flight from Dublin to Lanzarote and forced it to divert.

Ryanair has launched a £12,500 legal claim against a passenger whom the airline alleges disrupted a flight to the Canary Islands last year.

The budget airline has warned this will not be the last time it goes to court over unacceptable behaviour on its aircraft.

Ryanair has filed legal proceedings against a passenger it says disrupted a flight and forced it to be diverted, and is seeking 15,000 euros ($15,500) in damages, the Irish airline said on Wednesday.

Ryanair revealed on Wednesday it had decided to sue a passenger for just over $15,000 after a flight from Dublin to the Spanish island of Lanzarote was forced to divert to Porto, Portugal and be delayed overnight.
