DETROIT – Todd McLellan has been back in Detroit for two weeks, but he’s thinking about Southern California these days. Wildfires have ravaged the Los Angeles-area destroying thousands of homes and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate. McLellan coached the Los Angeles Kings from 2019-20 until midway through last season.

Whether or not that is the case, that improvement under McLellan has played a key role in Detroit's five-game winning streak, and now, with Lyon set to spend some time on the shelf injured, the Red Wings will need to keep it up without the man responsible for most of the gains. Moritz Seider drew a hooking penalty on Jake Sanderson at 2:10 of overtime. Patrick Kane scored on a power play with 2:39 remaining in overtime and the Detroit Red Wings extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.
