Two fires erupted in the San Diego area on Thursday afternoon, prompting evacuations. The Border 2 Fire, which broke out in the Otay Mountain Wilderness area east of Chula Vista and north of the U.S.-Mexico border, has burned approximately 4,250 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The blazes - named Laguna, Sepulveda, Gibbel, Gilman and Border 2 - flared up on Thursday in Los Angeles, San Diego, Ventura and Riverside.

Torrey Pines will have double duty as a PGA Tour host this year. The tour announced Friday that the San Diego venue—which is the backdrop for this week’s Farmers Insurance Open—will serve as the temporary home to next month’s Genesis Invitational after the Genesis was forced to move from Riviera Country Club due to the wildfires in Los Angeles

The PGA Tour event that Tiger Woods was scheduled to host in Southern California next month, until the Los Angeles wildfires forced its relocation, will be held in San Diego at Torrey Pines Golf Course,

South course at Torrey Pines in San Diego with an emphasis on relief initiatives for victims of the fires. That gives Torrey Pines two tournaments in a span of four weeks. The tour said the $20 million signature event hosted by Tiger Woods would return to Riviera Country Club next year.

CASTAIC, Calif. — Firefighters fought to maintain the upper hand on a huge and rapidly moving wildfire that swept through rugged mountains north of Los Angeles and resulted in more than 50,000 people being put under evacuation orders or warnings.

Ash from the Los Angeles Palisades and Eaton fires has been found by ocean researchers up to 100 miles away in the Pacific near San Nicolas Island.
