At a Keller ISD board meeting this week, parents and students strongly opposed a proposal to split the district along Highway 377. Amidst heated discussions, the board promised to provide more information and seek community feedback on the controversial plan.

Many described the split as a move to cut out students who “live on the wrong side of the tracks,” referring to the rail line along Denton Highway that serves as the border between Keller and Fort Worth, saying the board intended to racially segregate schools in the district. They also said they were “blindsided” by how the idea was made public.

The Keller Independent School District Board of Trustees is set to discuss a controversial proposal Thursday night to split the district in two. It's the first time students, families and teachers will be able to publicly address the board about the plan.

During that special meeting the Keller ISD board of trustees did not take action on a proposal that would create a new school district by splitting the existing one.

The railway tracks along U.S. Route 77 would mark the new district lines, cutting students off from resources.

Several parents criticized the Keller ISD board for lack of transparency in discussions on a proposed district split.
