As a winter storms works its way toward Hampton Roads, local leaders have announced closures and cancellations for weekend activities. Much of the region is under a winter storm warning through Saturday morning.

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Roads Transit will reduce services due to winter weather. On Saturday, Jan. 11, snow routes will go into effect. HRT will operate on limited, hourly bus service while the Tide light rail and Elizabeth River Ferry will run every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Hampton Roads might get another round of snow and ice this weekend as a nor’easter is expected to move across the South. According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Hampton Roads has at least a 70% chance of “minor impacts” from the storm,

The winter storm blowing across Virginia is causing some delays and cancellations in Hampton Roads. CNU will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. City offices, libraries, community centers and courts will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday. City employees with questions should check with their supervisors to determine their schedule expectations for the day.

This system will start initially as snowfall Friday afternoon and evening; however, freezing rain and sleet will mix in with the snow Friday night due to warmer air in the upper levels of the atmosphere.
