The top-ranked Michigan State hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie at Penn State on Saturday night, with the Nittany Lions winning the shootout to earn the extra point in the Big Ten standings.

The Penn State men’s hockey team earned its first Big Ten Conference victory of the season Sunday, dropping Notre Dame, 3-0, in South Bend, and ending a nine-game winless streak in conference play. It was the longest such streak in program history, matching a mark from Penn State’s first season in the conference.

For the first time in almost a month, No. 1 Michigan State hockey didn't win a game on Saturday, as the Spartans' second game of their road series with Penn State finished with a 2-2 tie. The Nittany Lions would win the shootout.

Michigan State has a tough decision to make about this weekend’s goaltending duties, especially against a Penn State team that stylistically throws a lot of rubber on net. It’s a difficult game for a goaltender who’s been through so much usage. And it also affects preparation for the next batch of games, too.
