A new electric scooter called Lightfoot, which launched today, helps eliminate those challenges: It’s covered in solar panels, so when it sits outside in the sun, it charges itself. Like a moped or motorcycle, it can be parked on the street.

This is Lightfoot, a solar scooter conceived by San Francisco-based R&D outfit Otherlab that, it claims, will be available to buy in the US from January. The most eye-catching feature are the two side panels covered in solar cells that will hopefully keep you from needing a charger.

While many EVs use solar panels to extend their range, those panels often don't look like they'd make much of a difference. Such is certainly not the case with the Lightfoot scooter, however, the sides of which are covered with panels that reportedly provide up to 18 miles of extra range per day.
