Death rates fell last year for almost all leading causes, notably COVID-19, heart disease and drug overdoses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report released Thursday.

I believe that all deaths are notable to someone, e.g,. a family member, a loved one, a friend, etc. But i guess I get it. The Herald-Dispatch chooses individuals well-known to the community.
