PBS has confirmed it closed its diversity, equity and inclusion office in order to comply with President Donald Trump’s recent executive order. All employees of the unit are reportedly being laid off.

PBS responded to President Donald Trump’s executive order calling for the shutdown of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) offices in the federal government.

PBS is closing an office dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, following Donald Trump’s series of executive orders targeting such programs. The announcement comes amid the prospect that public television funding will be targeted by the current administration and Republicans in Congress.

PBS has shut down its diversity, equity and inclusion office and fired two of its executives in response to President Trump’s DEI ban. The New York Times was the first to report the memo sent out to its staff.

PBS fired two diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) executives and scrapped the department after Bari Weiss’ online publication Free Press was tipped off that the broadcaster was ignoring President Trump’s executive order eliminating the controversial initiative.
