A newly released image shows the sound barrier being broken on February 10 as Boom Supersonic’s XB-1, America’s first civil supersonic jet, completed its second supersonic flight.

Boom Supersonic and NASA just dropped an incredible photo of the XB-1 breaking the sound barrier over the Mojave Desert. Using Schlieren photography, they captured air distortions that are usually invisible to the naked eye.

NASA has captured an image of a supersonic civilian jet breaking the sound barrier during a test flight over the Mojave Desert in California in February. The photo, released Monday by the plane’s manufacturer, Boom Supersonic, shows the XB-1 aircraft during its second supersonic flight on Feb. 10.
