One of the little running press currents in the lead-up to next week’s release of James Gunn’s Superman has been the fact that both David Corwenswet (Superman) and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) auditioned for the title part,

Nicholas Hoult had mentioned in a previous interview how he auditioned for the role of Superman but failed to secure it. Now, ‘Superman’ director James Gunn has explained why Nicholas Hoult missed out on that role and was better suited as Lex Luthor than Clark Kent.

“It was just difficult to figure out where I was going to come from with Superman ,” Gunn said speaking to io9 in Los Angeles last week. “And I think that it really started with my dog in a lot of ways. The idea of putting in Krypto, I think, was the fun part for me, because that was something that we hadn’t really seen in a Superman movie.”
