Some schools and organizations in Minnesota are announcing additional closings for Tuesday, following a wave of closings Monday amid dangerous cold.

With the extreme cold on Tuesday morning, many school districts in Minnesota and western Wisconsin have decided to cancel or delay classes.

The arctic cold snap that remains entrenched across the Upper Midwest has prompted some school districts in Minnesota and neighboring states to cancel or delay the start of classes on Tuesday.

Most schools are in the state are closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, but some of those that were due to open are also closing due to dangerous wind chills. An extreme cold warning remains in place across the vast majority of Minnesota as plunging temperatures have brought dangerous wind chills to the state.

Due to extreme cold temperatures in central Minnesota, many area schools will either start late or be closed Tuesday.

This is part of "the historic winter storm along the Gulf Coast and Southeast," the National Weather Service reported.
