The National Weather Service released its preliminary survey over the weekend, confirming an EF-2 tornado went across Monroe, Brown and into Bartholomew County during severe thunderstorms on Friday night.

Michigan's recent string of tornadoes has brought the statewide total to 25 so far this year through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. "Through mid-May, that's the fastest pace we've experienced," said Steven Freitag, a meteorologist with the agency based in White Lake Township.

Many NWS offices are now short-staffed, following recent Department of Government Efficiency-ordered staff cuts and voluntary early retirements.
