Lucy Letby should face a retrial, Sir David Davis has told Parliament, as he claimed the NHS was “most likely” responsible for baby deaths at her hospital.

Sir David claimed "erroneous" statistical evidence against Letby was even worse than the ultimately discredited data used against Cheshire solicitor Sally Clark, whose conviction for murdering her two sons was overturned in 2003.

Sir David says the former nurse's conviction was "built on a poor understanding of probabilities" and lacked "hard evidence".

The former nurse was convicted of murdering seven babies and trying to kill seven more while working as a nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital
