The Buffalo Bills brought in familiar reinforcements to shore up an inconsistent run defense by signing tackles Jordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson.

After the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys released Phillips. He had played in the first two games of the 2024 season before being placed on injured reserve on September 18 due to a wrist injury. Dallas designated him for return on October 23, but he wasn’t activated in Weeks 8 or 9.

One key reason why it is so challenging for teams to agree to trades at the deadline is that teams have concerns with new players learning their scheme quick enough. When you bring back old friends, that isn't much of a problem.

Both signed on one-year deals, the Bills announced. The Browns released Jefferson, 31, on Tuesday after the veteran player appeared in five games for Cleveland this season. He tallied six tackles and a sack.
