President Trump signed an executive order Thursday establishing a working group on digital assets led by David Sacks, the White House czar for artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency. The working group is tasked with proposing a federal regulatory framework for digital assets,

The order calls for the development of an AI action plan and sets up a process for revoking actions taken under President Biden’s previous AI executive order signed in October 2023.

The president also signed a memorandum advocating for federal recognition of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. “This is their first big step,” Trump said, noting the tribe’s longstanding support for his leadership. The memorandum directs relevant departments to take action to promote their recognition.

The language of the order, which has been taken down from Whitehouse.gov but is still available on the Internet Archive, set new standards for AI safety and security. That included requiring that developers of the most powerful AI systems share their safety test results, and other "critical information," with the U.S. government.
