Sarasota County Emergency Management officials have coordinated with municipal and community partners to provide cold weather shelter for those individuals in need due to the predicted drop in temperatures.

Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties are opening their cold weather shelters on Monday and Tuesday.

Several cold weather shelters are opening their doors this week in Escambia County as a cold weather advisory is in effect. The National Weather Service of Mobile issued a cold weather advisory to begin Monday night through mid-morning on Tuesday.

With Tuesday's First Alert Weather Day​, and temperatures expected to drop into the single digits Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the City and County of Denver activated its Cold Weather Shelter plan.

Volusia will open a shelter Monday through Wednesday, too. Temperatures are expected to dive into the mid-30s.

A Cold Weather Advisory is currently in effect through Tuesday. The forecast includes wind chills as low as 16-20 degrees.

For many in Denver and eastern Colorado, the coldest low temperatures in nearly a year are on the way. The forecasted low for Denver should drop close to 7 degrees.

Advocates with Housekeys Action Network Denver (HAND) say the city's shelters need to add capacity, transportation options and clearer information for advocates and people living on the street.
