Police first received reports of the threats on Feb. 16. However, parents reported that they found out about the threats while watching the news days later.

A Charlotte man is in jail on allegations that he made mass shooting threats against local schools, according to court records. A search warrant says emails and letters sent Feb. 15 and on Tuesday threatened several Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, and that police connected those threats to Drew Owens, 31, through information from his family.

The superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools apologized to students, parents, and staff on Monday for how the district handled nearly half a dozen threats that targeted five of its schools last week.
