A U.S. Border Patrol agent, who was shot and killed Monday during a traffic stop in Vermont, has been identified as David C. Maland, federal and state officials announced Tuesday.

One U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed, along with one subject. Another subject was injured and is in custody,” the FBI Albany office said.

Governor Phil Scott identified David Maland as the fallen officer, extending his “heartfelt condolences to Agent Maland’s family, friends, and colleagues."
