we always go this place, only 30 munities drive from Edmonton. There are lots of animals to see and kids are really like to play at lake and play ground.Full review by Takako Y
Are there (private) cabin/cottage for rent in or around the Elk Island National Park, that allows cross-country ski from cabin/cottage into the Park? If so, any suggestions/recommendations? We are planning a December visit. Thank you

Not that i know of, but try Elk Island Retreat , they iffer camping and are close to the national park as well

Yes you can , opposite the main park entrance is wood bison trail a 16 km hike , very nice, the bison loop after passing the gates on the left hand side is usually quite good for viewing banff, astotin lake is a dark sky preservatory, along with the bison loop is a good placeto view northern lights if active, astotoin lake , has a few hikes at it as well a camping area, playground for kids, a boardwalk short hike, just be careful, as motorcycles like to zoom through the parking lot as the park doesnt seem to enforce its speed limits, and on weekends amd sunny days lots of families there . But definately a very rewarding drive, keep your eyes peeled

There is a camping area that you have to make reservations for. And there is a open bbq area near a lake too. I'm 99% sure you are not allowed to fish here.
